Our New Safe Harbor

Our campaign seeks to raise $1.7 million to build and maintain a new safe harbor for Lincoln's young people.  Growing numbers of youth crowd our current facility at 2530 N Street.  Insufficient room for tutoring and other academic support forces our young people to study and eat dinner in the same basement space, the only available area away from the hustle and bustle of daily activities.

Although we'd prefer a family environment for our large dinners, this space crunch requires that we eat in shifts.  While we have updated the electrical system and the kitchen, the infrastructure of our 1920's bungalow remains problematic and insufficient to meet our current needs.

In our new Lighthouse, we will finally have the space and updated systems we need to be most effective.  The home will have separate study, dining, and gathering areas.  There will be a special room for tutoring.  Additional space will allow us to expand our programming, like job readiness.  An indoor recreation area will give our youth an opportunity to work off adolescent energy year-round.

Upgrades infrastructure will help computers and other equipment operate efficiently and make our dinner service more conducive to a family environment.  An elevator and other accessibility modifications will allow us to serve all youth.  Our staff will have functional offices.  And when more students "drop in" after school, we will be able to give them all enough space to feel comfortable, special, and loved.
