A safe, supervised, and nurturing environment

Lighthouse provides youth a "Safe Harbor."  An environment that is drug and alcohol free, safe from physical and emotional violence, and encourages healthy behavior.  Adult staff members and volunteers provide youth with supervision and positive role models.

Evening Meal

Lighthouse provides an evening meal at 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.  Meals are nutritious and reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of participating youth.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Lighthouse is committed to assisting the academic achievement of youth.  Lighthouse provides study hours Monday-Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Study hours provide youth access to quiet space for studying, computer and internet access, and one-on-one tutoring by Lighthouse staff members or University volunteers.  For students who drop out of school Lighthouse staff members provide assistance with re-enrollment or beginning a G.E.D. program.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Lighthouse provides youth with access to a variety of safe and positive recreational activities including a pool table, basketball, computer games, Sony Playstation2, and a variety of card/board games.

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS
Lighthouse provides at least one educational workshop per month addressing relevant and meaningful topics.  Individuals from human service agencies, educational institutions or local businesses facilitate majority of workshops.  Topics regularly covered include drug/alcohol education and awareness, career exploration, arts and cultural diversity.

FIELD TRIPS
Lighthouse staff expose youth to educational, recreational, and employment opportunities through field trips.  Field trips include college tours, speakers, plays, musical performances, recreational facilities, extra-curricular activities and sporting events.
